Volleyball – 2018 Rebel Invitational Preview

Not too shabby of an opening weekend for the Ole Miss volleyball team, coming home from the Iowa State Tournament 2-1. Now that the cobwebs have been shaken off and the confidence level is high, Ole Miss can turn their attention to this weekend’s Rebel Invitational. I think it was a great first performance, it was nice to finally play a different team. We’ve been used to playing each other the last couple of weeks for preseason. So, it was nice to play some teams and I think they’re higher, or more challenging than they have been in the past preseason and I thought we did pretty well against it. Those are some really good wins for our team and it was really good competition. Virginia, Iowa State, Oregon they were all some really good teams and to beat Virginia and Oregon those were really big confidence boosters for us and it was overall a really good weekend for us. The last time Ole Miss hosted a tournament at the Gillom center, they won it. With Samford, Ohio State, Little Rock and Southern Miss coming to town this weekend, the Rebs will try to protect their house. It’s four teams coming in with a combined record of 11-1, so everybody had a nice weekend. You throw us in there and it’s 13-2 between five teams, that’s a pretty good first weekend. So, every match is going to be competitive. It will be a fun weekend, not only to coach volleyball, but to watch volleyball. Just some really good competition, we want to have a lot of energy whenever we’re playing. The competition will just keep getting harder as we’re going. It was nice the first weekend we got to see what kinds of things we need to work on because we’re playing different teams and I think this week we’re trying to get better at those, so we’re ready for this weekend. Call in sick. The fun begins this Friday at 10:00 when Ole Miss takes on Samford. And if you can’t get off work and you can’t get out of class I expect to see you here at the Gillom center at 6:30 when Ole Miss takes on Ohio State. If you can’t make it out to Oxford this weekend, you can keep up with all the matches online at OleMissSports.com. You could also watch them with the SEC Network Plus.
