♪ ♪ Hey PSJA Family! I’m KTRI Reporter Melinda Garza, thanks for tuning in to this episode of Up to Date with PSJA. Halloween is next Tuesday, hence the magical getup So, a couple of our campuses and clubs made history this week so let’s get to it by starting off on a good NOTE. Our four campuses competed at the annual Pigskin Jubilee in McAllen this past weekend and all four came home with Division 1 ratings! Not only that. The PSJA Southwest Javelinas are advancing to Area for the first time in their school history! Best of luck to the Javelinas when they perform their show “ Persephone” in Area at our PSJA Stadium on October 28. Let’s make history, Javelina band! ♪ ♪ And in other historic news. The PSJA Memorial Lady Wolverines Volleyball team became the 31-6A District Champions after defeating the PSJA Southwest Early College High School team on Tuesday. This is the first time the Lady Wolverines Volleyball team has won a district title and they’re now on their way to the playoffs for the third consecutive year. A huge congrats to the team for this amazing accomplishment and best of luck in the playoffs! ♪ ♪ One of our students is preparing to compete at the 2017 State Cross Country Meet! PSJA Memorial Junior Cruz Gomez recently competed at the Cross Country meet in Corpus Christi and earned third place, advancing to the state meet in Round Rock on the first week of November. Side note: Of the 6A boys who competed, Cruz was one of only three from the Rio Grande Valley who’s advancing. Congrats to Cruz and good luck at the state meet! ♪ ♪ In recognition of National Bullying Prevention Month our high schools attended a district-wide Anti-Bullying Rally at PSJA Early College High School to discuss the dangers and effects of bullying and encourage the community to speak up. YOU can do so by downloading the Safe2SpeakUp app on your phone, where you can anonymously report bullying or other threats you either experience or witness. Through the app the submissions will to straight to our campus administrators and district safety team. You can visit www.psjaisd.us/safe2speakup on our website for more information. ♪ ♪ And in this week’s Football Calendar: On Thursday, October 26, the Edinburg Economedes Jaguars are going up against our PSJA Southwest Javelinas at the PSJA Stadium at 7pm. And on Friday, October 27, it’s the PSJA Bears vs the PSJA Wolverines! Kickoff is at 7:30. McKeever Elementary student Marlissa Flores recently earned 1st place at the first annual Spooktacular Pedal Car and Bike Show! At just 6 years old, this kiddo designed, decorated and came up with the concept of her car and came out on top.
