Liverpool beat Newcastle 3-2 thanks to a last gasp Divock Origi goal on Saturday, but the game could’ve been different if Alexander-Arnold was dismissed for an early handball  Shortly before Christian Atsu cancelled out Virgil Van Dijk’s opener, Salomon Rondon’s shot was cleared off the line by the elbow of the England international  Alexander-Arnold was defiant when asked about the incident, and remained adamant that it was an accident  He said: “It was one of those where the ball’s come at me quite quick, it’s being instinctive, my arm hasn’t really flown out and tried to attack the ball, it’s stayed near my side  “But if you look back on the lead-up to the second goal where I get tripped up but that didn’t get seen  “It’s probably worked out evens, at the end of the day. “It was so important for us to get the win and put the pressure back on City, and hopefully Leicester can do us a favour on Monday night ” Liverpool fans would argue that because the advantage was played for Atsu to score – that the previous incident should be ignored  The three points sent Liverpool back to the top of the Premier League table, whilst putting pressure back on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City  “It was tough. They did really well to get back into the game twice,” Alexander-Arnold added  “We always knew it would be a tough place to come but we wanted to make a statement and show we had the mentality to bounce back after what happened in midweek  “The team showed that spirit to come back, a lot of times this season we have come from goals down and we always knew we had the players to get the result ”  Liverpool face Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday needed to complete a sensational comeback to have any chance of progressing  Alexander-Arnold continued: ”It’s all about the win, especially so late in the season and put the pressure back on City and hopefully Leicester can do us a favour on Monday night  “We have just focus on Barcelona now. We have a massive uphill climb, we showed great mentality to score three goals tonight  “We’ve got a quick turnaround and we will go again on Tuesday.”
