Left Shoulder Golf Downswing Key ➜ #1 Golf Iron Tip

Left shoulder golf downswing. Are you
struggling to hit solid iron shots? You’ve looked at your swing on video and
you feel like you’re leaning back too far and you’re not sure what your
left shoulder should be doing in the golf downswing. In this next video I’m
going to show you in detail how the left shoulder moves in the golf downswing so
you can hit the ball first then take a divot and hit a lot more solid golf iron
shots. So let’s get started Hey it’s Troy from www.hittingitsolid.com
here. At this channel I show you how to
make the game of golf easy, with at-home golf drills that will lead to lasting
improvement in your golf game. Make sure
you like this video, subscribe to the channel. The more subscribers I get helps
me grow the channel and keep on producing videos like this so we can keep on
improving and playing better golf together. Let’s get started. Let’s talk
about the left shoulder in the golf downswing. This plays a critical role in
your ability to hit solid iron shots. Now,
especially with iron shots, it also plays a key role with your driver, but in
particular with your iron shots. Absolutely critical you get this left
shoulder moving correctly because if you don’t you’ll find it very difficult to
hit the ball first and then take a divot after and really hit those solid well
compressed iron shots that we all want to play. So what I’m talking about this
left shoulder, the lead shoulder why is it so important. Well, if I can set up
here and I’ve got a 7-iron here and you can practice this with any iron. What I
try to think about and I got this from former US Open champion Johnny Miller,
and this is one of the best tips I’ve found for hitting solid golf iron shots. Make sure you stick around to the next part
of the video where I’m going to show you a simple drill you can practice at home to
really embed this into your game. So
where most golfers go wrong in regard to this left shoulder and the
golf downswing. So, if I’m set up here. I’ll just chuck a ball down here for
Demonstration. If I go to the top, where most golfers go
wrong with this left shoulder, they might make a pretty good turn, pretty good
backswing like this, on the way down they leave too much weight, this may be
something you can relate to. If they
leave too much weight, you might leave too much weight on that right side, then
you’re swinging something like that. It’s
going to lead to a lot of inconsistent and thin, fat golf shots. And the reason
being is that leads. I’ll show that you had it
set up. So if I’m at setup here, my lead
shoulder is here, when you come back and you come down, your lead shoulder is
actually getting further away from where it started. Now ideally what you want to
see happen, what I’d like to see you do and this is really easy to fix so I know
you can you can get this and embed it into your game. What I’d like to see you
do is when you go to the top, feel like you get this left shoulder back to where
it started or even further towards the target on your downswing. So at this
point here I’ve got, I can feel my left shoulders right about here, as I
come to the top as I come down I feel like that left shoulder, it actually got
closer to the target on the way down. Now
if I can do that and if you can do that what will happen is it’ll enable you to
come down you’ll be able to hit the ball first and then take a divot after. Whereas, if you were to pull that lead
shoulder back, leave it back here as you can see here from here it’s next to
impossible to hit the ball first and then a divot without any amazing sort of
compensations from back here. You’re in a
lot of trouble. But if you can get that
left shoulder back over, first thing you’ve got to be thinking about is you
should start your downswing getting this left shoulder back to where it started
or closer to the target. So should get
here first thing, you want to be thinking about doing is going here,
and then down like that, and that will really help you compress the golf ball,
trap the golf ball. All those terms that
you hear about hitting solid iron shots just by getting that left shoulder back
to where it started and that will really help you. And it also helps eliminate a
lot of pulled shots to the left or any sort of weak shots that you might hit to
the left side of the fairway because if you get into this position here the only
way you’re going to hit it left is by doing some real manipulation with the
club pulling it left. If you can get
yourself in this position back to where you started you’re just in a fantastic
position where you can swing through and hit a lot straighter golf shots. So in
this next video I’m going to show you a really simple drill you can practice at
home to get this really embedded in your game. I’ll see in a second. Okay here’s a
really simple drill you can practice at home to get that left shoulder in the
golf downswing in a great position and hit those really solid iron shots. So
I’ve got an alignment stick here to show you with this drill. Now if you don’t
have one of these you could practice this a number of different ways but the
object is you need some sort of reference point that sort of lines up
with your left shoulder so you can really feel as though when you come down
you’re getting it back to where it started. So I’m just going to pop this in
here. Okay we’ve got our alignment stick
in there. You know what I’m going to do. I’m going to set the ball up here, I’m going
to try and get that left shoulder back to where it started, which will be right
against this alignment stick. I want to
feel like I’m pushing against that alignment stick on the way down so if
I’m to set up somewhere around here and let’s get over a bit closer here you can
see at the moment my left shoulder is just touching the alignment stick and
what I’m aiming to do. Let’s make a swing
as we come down you can see there it’s just touching that alignment stick. Now
you’ll notice when I come down to the ball look what’s happened I’ve naturally
got a bit of forward shaft lean, hands ahead of the ball, I’m going to be
compressing that golf ball all day long simply by just thinking about the lead
shoulder. I’m not thinking about hands,
the arms what the clubs doing. But by
getting that left shoulder over to where I started, I’m in a great position to hit
solid iron shots. Let’s do another one
and there we go again I can just feel that alignment stick touching my left
shoulder there. And look at that position,
not even thinking about. What you don’t
want to be doing as I explained earlier, we don’t want to be doing this back like
that. All you need to think about with
this drill. You can take this to the
driving range wherever you can practice just think about returning that left
shoulder back to where it started at address and that will really help you. Let’s do one more,
there we go just touching the alignment stick and I’m going to compress the golf
ball all day long just with that simple drill. Drop a comment down below if you’ve
tried this drill or you’ve tried another drill that works really effectively with
getting that left shoulder in the golf downswing into a better position to
where it started. Drop a comment down below, I will reply
to every comment. I’ll see you in a second. There you have it, now you know how to
get the left shoulder in the golf downswing into a great position and hit
those beautiful golf iron shots. If you have
any questions or comments please post them down below, I would love to hear from
you and I will reply to every single comment. Now, make sure you like this video,

video I’ll have a link to my free video, it’s called 3 secret moves, make

also have another link down below to some further golf instruction that will
really help you out. Now above this video
I’ll have a link to the release in the golf swing which ties in nicely with
this. Because once we get into that
impact position we need to release properly and this will really help out
with that. So make sure you check that
out. Thanks again so much for watching. I’ll see you next time.

Does the lower body technically start the downswing? I struggle with this topic. I need to work on this with your drill.
