this is going to be a crochet ball what type of animals or creatures will you make out of your crochet ball I am using four ply yarn and a size H 5 millimeter crochet hook take the loose end wrap it over your main strand now you have a loop take the loop fold it over your main strand put your hook below the center strand back up the opposite side this creates the slip knot work a chain 3 1 2 3 join with the beginning chain putting your hook right through the first chain wrap the yarn over pull it through pull through the loop on your hook and that joins your chain into a ring work 9 single crochet through the loop 1 2 3 then putting my hook right through the center of the loop working around the chain 4 5 six seven eight nine we will sew the tail in a little bit later round two will be working two single crochet in each stitch around we will be working in the continual round and that is by putting your hook right below the two loops at the top of the stitch working the first single crochet we will work a second single crochet in the same stitch and this is the increase we will be working two single crochet in each stitch around for a total of 18 three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve thirteen fourteen 15 16 17 18 this is what it looks like through round 2 round 3 will be one single crochet in each stitch around for a total of 18 we’re working the continual round so this means we continue working single crochet that’s stitch two three four five six seven eight nine ten 11 12 13 14 15 16 17:18 this is what we have with round three at this point you may want to attach a scrap piece of yarn and this is the yarn marker so you know where the beginning of the round is and I’ve just loosely attached it just like that we will be working on round four round four will have 24 single crochet the first two stitches will be individual stitches one two the third stitch will be an increase three four individual five six the increase seven eight individual nine ten increase 11 12 individual 13 14 increase 15 16 individual 17 18 increase 19 20 individual 21 22 increase 23 24 attach my yarn marker to the last stitch and this is where I worked the increase and if you don’t get it to line up perfect or the number of stitches are not perfect don’t worry about it you can go on ahead and work an extra increase the project is still going to work even if your stitch count is off a little bit round 5 will be an individual stitch in three stitches one two three the next stitch will be an increase for five there will be a total of 30 single crochet on round five six seven eight increase nine ten eleven twelve thirteen increase fourteen fifteen sixteen seventeen eighteen increase nineteen twenty increases working two stitches in the same stitch and you can see the two stitches worked right below the two loops at the top of the stitch 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 round six will have 36 single crochet work one single crochet in each of the next four one two three four and increase in the next five six work an individual stitch in each of the next four seven eight nine ten work two in the next stitch eleven twelve 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 I’m back around to the beginning you can see there are slight points this is what happens when you don’t stagger the stitches and sometimes I will stagger a little bit off it is not going to matter because once we continue on you won’t notice the points round seven through 12 will be one single crochet in each stitch around for a total of 36 I have completed round 12 round 13 will be a decrease round we will start off by working one single crochet in four stitches one two three four to work the decrease you put the hook under the first stitch wrap the yarn over pull it through put your hook through the next stitch wrap the yarn over pull it through there are three loops on the hook wrap the yarn over pull through all three loops at the end of round 13 we will have 30 single crochet work one single crochet in each of the next four stitches one two three four work a single crochet decrease put your hook below the two loops at the top of the stitch wrap the yarn over pull it through put your hook below the two loops at the top of the next stitch wrap the yarn over pull it through there are three loops on your hook wrap the yarn over pull through all three loops work four individual stitches one two three four work a decrease work for individual stitches 1 2 3 4 work a decrease work for individual stitches 1 2 3 4 work a decrease work for individual stitches 1 2 3 4 work a decrease you you you can see how it’s slightly beginning to turn in this is what it looks like on the bottom this is the top now would be a good time to sew in the tail at the beginning before we get it closed up too much I’m going to thread my needle use whatever needle you have one hand the eye should be large enough for the yarn to fit through I’m going to make a little knot right here at the beginning and then I’m going to weave in the tail just like that then I’m going to leave it on the inside there and then cut off some of the excess just like that and that will be on the inside round 14 will be a decrease round there will be 24 single crochet work one single crochet in each of the next three stitches one two three work a single round 15 work one single crochet in two stitches work a single crochet decrease there will be a total of 18 single crochet we have worked the first three stitches four five the decrease this is six seven eight now the decrease nine individual stitches ten eleven now the decrease this is 12 13 14 15 which is the decrease 1617 now the decrease which is 18 at this point I’m going to take polyester fiberfill and stuff it in the ball you can use whatever material you have to stuff your ball if you want to use scraps of anything you could even use scrap yarn old rags torn up whatever you have anything will work round 16 will be one single crochet in each stitch around for a total of eighteen one two three for five six 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 at this point I’m going to work a slip stitch skip one single crochet work a slip stitch in the next skip a single crochet work a slip stitch in the next skip one single crochet work a slip stitch in the next skip one single crochet work a slip stitch in the next skip one single crochet work a slip stitch in the next skip one single crochet work a slip stitch in the next skip one single crochet work a slip stitch in the next I’m going to wrap the yarn over and pull off a long tail cut off the yarn we will sew the rest of the opening shut I have threaded my needle and I’m going to weave it between this last round give it a tug slightly as we work our way around that looks pretty good so what I’m going to do let’s make a knot make the second knot now you can leave the tail on if you need to be sewing something else together to it or what I’m going to do is just saw it right on through the ball just like that and then cut off the yarn and that completes the ball

    What's the formula for the first "round" of stitches? As in, you made 3 single crochets, joined them together, then made 9 stitches from the inside of the circle. Is it 3 times by itself, or just 3 + 6?

    When i make amigurumi, i always found the start of my new round shifted to the right a bit so the start of every row is not in a straight line. Can anyone tell me why and maybe give me some pointer?

    HI!! I am a beginner at crocheting but learning pretty quickly by watching youtube videos.
    I was wondering how you figure out the pattern to crochet a ball size on your own. I can only follow what I see on youtube for whatever size ball the video is on but if I wanted to crochet a ball size of my choice, how would I determine the increase and decrease amounts?

    You should have what stiches your doing above your project I'm sure I'm not the only one that forgets or is faster….all in all the ball is great.

    Plus people that don't speak English will know how many & the sc and dec2tog.means

    really really difficult for me to follow, I can hardly see what your hands are doing and you are going way too fast – I have to pause every few seconds, then rewind, then try figure out where youre putting the hook, then pause again, etc. I'll try a different video.

    The first time I learn the definition of Amigurumi I just fell in love with the entire crochet thing. I'm so eager to learn how to master these skills just for the love of my great newfound obsession with Mickey and Mini Mouse. I'm sure when I do actually learn it, I will make tons of them for the love that I have for these cuties toys. I have to find the way to learn these skills in my spree time, I hope It's not too difficult to master.

    It brings me back so many childhood years. I'm sure my room will be filled with Mickey and Mini Mouse Amigurumi in no time. hahaha.

    My sister in law wants me to make a teddy bear head for a 3 to 9 month baby sleeper. She is making on of those memorial baby sleeper teddy bears. I need to make the ball bigger than that. Something like the size of a 3 to 6 or 6 to 9 month babies head. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.
